Celebrities are often painted as men and women who are perfect. They are gorgeous, flawless and absolutely amazingly beautiful. Where does this come from? Sure, there are some celebs that are so amazingly beautiful that they don’t seem real – and when they don’t age, ever, it seems even more like they’re not even real humans. But then there are celebs that are beautiful but have to work very hard to maintain their looks. And some of that has a lot to do with weight. Some stars are perpetually thin, large or in-between, and then there are those whose weight fluctuates a little more often. In fact, you could say that those celebs are more like the rest of the world than anyone else. These are men and women we see that look great sometimes while other times it’s clear they’ve been heavy on the indulgences and light on the workouts. Kelly Clarkson
She has always had a little bit of trouble finding a weight and sticking with it. She was perfectly normal when she began her career on American Idol, and then she gained a few pounds. Then she lost them again. Then she gained them again. Most recently, after giving birth to her first daughter, however, she’s gained quite a bit of weight and she’s been taking a lot of heat from it. She is a good one, though, about standing up to her critics, and she seems not to care.
Janet Jackson
We imagine that her life is a bit stressful with all that goes on. Her family has a lot of drama. She’s been famous since she was a child. Her brother passed. She’s been married in secret and then there was the whole Super Bowl halftime performance controversy a few years back. Her life is an emotional roller coaster, and it seems that it’s taken a bit of a toll on her weight. She’s exceptionally fit and gorgeous at times, and then completely out of shape others.
Oprah Winfrey
She’s been known to battle her weight for decades, and it never stops for the famed talk show host. She’s up and down and back up again all the time. You just never know what you’re going to get with Oprah until she steps out into the limelight at an event.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
When she first became a famous actress, she was tiny. Then she put on some weight. Then she lost it when her fans started to talk about her weight. Then she gained it back pregnant. Then she started to lose some weight. Then she had another baby and gained it back. Her weight fluctuates from time to time, but she’s lovely enough that it doesn’t matter.
Mariah Carey
She’s another one of those women whose life is just a series of very personal ups and downs, and it has an effect on her weight. She’s sometimes very thin and fit, and other times she puts on a few pounds and doesn’t seem to care. She’s got some romantic issues in her life at the moment, and many of the women on the list here seem to have weight fluctuations when their lives are in the midst of major changes. It could explain her frequent weight loss and gain.
Christina Aguilera
For a long time she was so thin you could barely see her. As she got older, she put on a lot of weight and was almost unrecognizable. Then she lost it and then she got pregnant for a second time. She’s a little bit in between thin and not so thin at the moment, but I believe she is back to working on her weight at this time. She has been through a lot in her life, from a tumultuous upbringing with parents she says have not always been there for her, a divorce, two kids; she’s got a lot of emotional baggage and it seems to take a toll on her from time to time.
Jessica Simpson
She’s looking better than ever right now, but it wasn’t always so. When she first became a famous singer, she was a toothpick. She lost even more weight and toned her body like crazy to play Daisy Duke in a movie, and then she suddenly made an appearance a few years ago in which she was significantly larger. When she gave birth to her first child, she decided she was going to lose her weight and be happy with herself, and she’s done an amazing job.
Tyra Banks
Remember when she was the most famous supermodel in the world and then suddenly there were photos of her that were a lot less than flattering all over the news? The famed talk show host and model got back into shape, but it seems like it doesn’t take much for her to get out of shape when she’s not in the gym and watching what she’s eating.
Britney Spears
Britney seemed to have some trouble losing her weight when she gave birth to her little boys, and that’s been an issue for her. She was always very little beforehand, and then she gained so much weight she couldn’t lose it. For a while she looked a little bit rough, but she’s been back in action and is currently looking better than she has in a long time. It’s working for her, and people seem to love that about the superstar singer.
Kirstie Alley
There is no way that this woman has not battled her weight her entire life. We will see her once looking fit and amazing, and then six months later she’s in the news having gained 50 pounds. Two months later she’s lost it all and looking better than ever, and then the next year she’s doubled her weight. Then she loses it and then she gains it. She’s always doing something and always gaining and losing weight. It’s a constant battle for her.
