Who Was Big Scarr?
Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, Big Scarr grew up surrounded by violence and poverty. Despite the challenges he faced, he found solace in music and began writing and recording his own songs as a teenager. His early work was heavily influenced by the gritty street rap that was popular in Chicago at the time, but as he grew older, he began to incorporate more personal, introspective themes into his music.
It was this combination of street credibility and emotional depth that helped set Big Scarr apart from other rising artists in the city. In 2019, he released several singles and a mixtape that began to gain traction in the underground rap scene. But it wasn’t until the release of his debut album “Scarred for Life” in early 2020 that he broke through to the mainstream.
According to Big Scarr’s family, he died on December 22, 2022, from an accidental prescription drug overdose. The following are some of his songs before his death.

On Monday 9th January 2023, Big Scarr’s sister posted a message on Instagram after Gucci Mane’s wife released proof that the 1017 Global CEO spent $10,000 on Scarr’s burial and another $10,000 on flowers. This is what she sent in the message posted on Instagram.
“That $10,000 ain’t going to get you anything except obituaries and flowers, boo,” Woods stated on Live, appearing to counter-evidence presented by Keyshia Ka’oir. “My brother is worth more than ten thousand dollars.”
“Gucci sent $10,000, And someone from another team. So it came to $20,000 in all. And we’re not getting the flowers. I don’t care what anyone says… Regardless, the funeral will be paid for. That scumbag cash. That’s why we claimed he didn’t contribute… That was insufficient. The whole cost of my brother’s funeral was $60,000.”
