Lamar Odom has left his glorious nights as a basketball player behind. Although the former Los Angeles Lakers forward treasures stories to share with his friends alongside stars like Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, his life has moved on to other destinations.
Vices have haunted his life since before his retirement from the NBA. Almost on the verge of death, Odom has needed the help of his friends after suffering problems with drugs and excessive drinking.
Odom, in addition, revealed that he had a third vice: dating. After breaking up with his ex-fiancée Sabrina Parr late last year, the former NBA player claimed he made some significant changes in his life.
"A year ago yesterday I left my ex-fiance' at the W Hotel in Atlanta without notice. When she realized I was gone back to my home in San Diego she was livid. I received over 250 calls and text messages over the course of last December from her wanting to fix us. We were toxic. Independently and collectively," the former star hooper wrote on social media.
Amid his reflection, Odom said he "hated being alone" and that he "sought solace in marijuana and a bunch of random women, not loving any of them, not really wanting to be with any of them, but it was better than being alone."
The Lamar Odom's rebirth
Lamar was pictured several times in states of severe intoxication. Several of his former Lakers teammates even tried to help him with messages and calls of support. But Odom, in his loneliness, had an epiphany.
"One day, my soul opened up, light bulb went off and I wanted and needed to change for ME! My team had worked hard to get me a fresh start. I had to honor that.", he added.
The 42-year-old understood that it was time to make changes because his life was at risk. And that's what he did.
"Today, I am free. Drug free. Pornography addiction free. Marijuana free. Relationship free. I am rebuilding a relationship with myself. With my family. I am focused on my faith. My growth. My brand. I am a legend. I own that. I am a recovering addict. I own that too.", said.
The former NBA All-Star overdosed and nearly died after a night of hard partying at Dennis Hof's brothel in Nevada back in 2015.
Although Lamar pledged to lead a sober life in the past, he was unable to follow through. Now he says he appreciates the support and is closer to achieving it.
