Police have released footage of the moment an allegedly armed fugitive was taken into custody after spending 10 days on the run.

Ricky Brockdorff, 32, was arrested by heavily armed police on Tuesday afternoon following a dramatic siege in Melbourne’s west.

Police allege Mr Brockdorff had been “actively avoiding” them for 10 days after a warrant was issued for his arrest over the non-fatal shooting of a woman near a Docklands apartment on July 17.

Mr Brockdorff had managed to avoid police until Tuesday when they found him holed up inside a house in Lemongrass Circuit, Point Cook.

Heavily armed police tried to negotiate with Mr Brockdorff for at least an hour until he was arrested with the assistance of the special operations group at about 1.50pm.

Footage from the scene, released by Victoria Police, shows Mr Brockdorff being led up the street after his arrest wearing a grey shirt with red cross, black tracksuit pants and black runners.

Armed crime squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas follows closely behind Mr Brockdorff, while a group of people can be spotted coming forward to yell at the alleged fugitive as he is loaded into the back of a divvy van at the end of the street.

Mr Brockdorff was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday morning, along with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, recklessly endangering life, subject of firearm prohibition order possess firearm, prohibited person possess firearm, unlicensed driving and handling stolen good.

The 25-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman was seriously injured in the alleged shooting that occurred at the Rakaia Way apartment complex on July 17 at about 12.20am.

She remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Inspector Thomas alleged Mr Brockdorff had access to firearms and was “avoiding police apprehension” in the 10 days before his arrest.

“There (had) been a number of attempts made to locate Ricky and he’s avoided us on several occasions,” he said.

Inspector Thomas said the woman was known to Mr Brockdorff, and police believed the pair were together prior to the alleged shooting.

“We believe they may have had an argument and they’ve returned to the victim’s vehicle where the victim was shot,” he said.

Mr Brockdorff is expected to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later on Wednesday.
