Netflix surprised fans by unveiling the first official trailer for their upcoming Tomb Raider anime series on September 27, 2023, amid recent controversies surrounding the show.
Despite previous uncertainties about the series’ fate, it’s now apparent that not only is it on its way, but there’s also a tentative release timeframe in place.
This development comes as a bit of a shock, given that Netflix had removed the Tomb Raider anime’s landing page from their platform not too long ago.
This decision left fans and eager viewers perplexed, especially since rumors in June 2023 had suggested a second season renewal for the series.
Nevertheless, it appears that the Tomb Raider anime series is progressing towards completion in its production pipeline.
While potential delays could affect the release window mentioned, it does offer hope that fans won’t have to wait too long to enjoy the series.

Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime announces 2024 release
In the approximately one-minute trailer of the Tomb Raider anime, we witness Lara Croft, the iconic adventurer, starting with a scene where she’s visibly out of breath, clutching a bow, and leaping into a ravine.
She then inspects some markings on a wall before the scene transitions to her standing amidst a fiery environment.
This fiery backdrop then transforms into a supernatural display of tail-like apparitions.
Next, we see Croft examining a photograph of herself and a group of others, followed by a scene where she shoots an arrow directly at the camera.
During Netflix’s Drop 01 animation event, it was officially disclosed that the series is titled “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” and is scheduled for release in 2024.
Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the series, it’s apparent that it will capture the same themes and mood found in recent video games, which are often characterized as having a darker and more intense atmosphere.
Initially unveiled in 2021, the series was shrouded in secrecy, leaving its fate uncertain.
The involvement of lead actress Hayley Atwell, who is slated to portray Croft in the anime, and her connection to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes prompted many questions regarding the series’ status.
Now that the strikes have concluded, there’s a strong indication that Atwell will continue to lend her voice to the character, especially since the series trailer was released without any mention of casting changes.
We can only hope that the remainder of the series’ production proceeds smoothly, without any further disruptions, allowing fans to enjoy the final product sooner.
